Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black…
For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He’s a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn’t care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.
23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn’t realize how much her father’s indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn’t one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it’s an absence of moments. She’s like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other… to fill the void that her father left in her.
Until she meets Dominic.
After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.
Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated… they’ve learned a priceless lesson.
Sometimes, before we fall… we fly.
Courtney Cole Bio:
Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.
Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
And now, I decided to insert Meg’s review of Before We Fall.
IT’S HERE! IT’S HERE! I can hardly believe that Before We Fall is finally out! It feels like I’ve been waiting for a lifetime for this book! But wait a second, who in the heck is Dominic Kinkaide? Say what?!?!?! No, seriously….when Courtney Cole mentioned that the new love interest in the third installment of the Beautifully Broken series wasn’t someone we’d met before, I was all like “nahhhhh.” After creating this beautiful world of amazing men who are such powerful characters, and these strong, vibrant women who love with every fiber of their beings, there was no way Courtney would take us somewhere new and plunge us into the unknown! I knew in my heart of hearts that Jacey would end up with the ever-delectable Brand and there was no way my beloved Courtney would leave him hanging. No way.
Well, I was wrong. Courtney TOTALLY dropped us into an unknown world, with mostly new characters (well, Jacey isn’t new and she’s still as kickass as she was in If You Leave) and a new location with new situations and holy hell…a totally new luscious piece of man meat. Ladies, you don’t know dark until you meet Dominic. Dominic Kinkaide pretty much stepped out of the pages of Before We Fall and bitch slapped me with his bad boy attitude and left me panting after him like…well, you get the picture. And then, I was like…Brand who? Yup, Brand is definitely not what Jacey needs. Nope, not at all.
Jacey, out on a quest to find herself and escape her past, has moved far from home. She’s determined to strike out on her own, build her life up, and take care of business, without anyone’s help. Unfortunately for her, that means she’s serving cocktails at high end parties of the rich and extremely famous, in teeny tiny outfits. Dominic’s brother is the host of many of those parties, leading to the inevitable meeting between the two. But no, sparks do not immediately fly with this pair. Not. At. All. Certain things happen, bad things of course, that lead to the inevitable, and Jacey finds herself literally stuck with Dominic (who’s less than thrilled with the prospect as well.)
Dominic is so different from Pax and Gabriel, each one of these men is dark and broken in some way, but each way is different. Pax came from a broken situation, with a dark childhood that catapulted him into the life of drugs and alcohol. Gabriel was tortured from his experiences later in life, in the military. Dominic is broken for reasons so different from the other two, and he pretty much ripped my heart out and tore it into a million pieces. He’s dark, and angry, and bitter with life, and unwilling to accept the inevitable no matter how many times it smacks him around, but when he falls. Wow.
And Jacey? Well, we know so much of her background from If You Leave, and it amazes me how much she grows between If You Leave and Before We Fall. She truly puts every part of her soul into becoming a stronger woman, and to put her past behind her. And she won’t take anyone’s crap in the meantime, not even from a huge celebrity like Dominic.
And, staying true to the first two books in this series, Jacey and Dominic have to work for every inch they gain in their relationship. Ladies, these books are REAL when it comes to relationships. This is no fawning love story filled with sickening declarations and “love at first sight” nonsense. This is a book that speaks to the heart; this entire series speaks to the heart. Everything about the Beautifully Broken series speaks to the work and dedication that it takes to build a real relationship, and to build real love, and Before We Fall takes all this to a new level that is beyond what the first two books are. I’m astonished at the growth in this series with each new book!
In the end, I was so glad that Courtney took us on this new journey, and changed things up on us so much. It was such a refreshing change, and I feel that it some freshness was needed with such heavy topics that were faced in this book. I love Dominic, and I love Jacey and all the hardships they faced in coming together, and I loved the beautiful struggle of their love story. You may not like Dominic in the beginning, but he is so worth it in the end. I know I gush about Courtney Cole’s work all the time, but she truly blows me away with every new book, and Before We Fall is certainly at the top of my list.
