I’ve had my hands on the Stephanie Plum series for a while now, but nothing has pushed me to begin reading them. As I’ve said before, when I hear that there is a movie coming out based on a book, I like to read the book first. So of course when I heard a movie was being released for the first book of this series, I dived right in. I only wish I wouldn’t have waited so long.
Stephanie Plum has just been laid off from her job as a discount lingerie buyer. When her car is repossessed and she realizes she has an empty refrigerator, she has to do the unthinkable. She goes to her cousin Vinnie for a job.
Stephanie blackmails Vinnie into giving her a job at his bail-bond’s business. Her first job is a recovery job worth $10,000. The bail jumper is Joe Morelli. The same Joe Morelli who stole her virginity at the age of 16 while she worked at the local bakery. The same Joe Morelli she tried to later run over with a Buick.
Along the way, Stephanie meets some interesting people: a woman-hating boxer, a fellow bounty hunter, and a couple of hookers. All in a days work in the ‘burg’ in New Jersey.
This book had me laughing so much. I love the way Evanovich has written Stephanie. She isn’t perfect in any way. She gets herself into so many deadly situations, it’s crazy. And I wonder how many times a person can have their car destroyed?
I am already on book seven of this series and I am still loving it. There’s murder, mystery, romance, laughs… everything that makes you love a good book. I guarantee that if you read this first book, One For the Money, you will immediately find the other books in the series and devour them as well.
